Dubbing Facility The Dubbing Process
You are NOT allowed to edit your vision. This means your vision must go directly from your camera tape to the Mini DV tape you hand in. It can not go via a computer, or via some other piece of equipment.
You are allowed to dub onto your vision any sound you like. This means you can add music, voice over or live sound. You may edit this sound as much as you wish. If you want, you can take your live sound and put it on a computer or edit machine and then put it back on the tape.
You CAN NOT output your sound and vision from an edit machine. The vision must come directly from the camera tape to the tape you hand in.
Dubbing at Home
You are allowed to dub at home. You will need either a Mini DV camera or deck, your source camera (the one you shot your footage on) and a TV or monitor (optional if you have a LCD screen on the cameras).

Each team will be given the opportunity to book a 20 minute slot that can be booked on registration night from 7.00pm (slots fill up fast so get in early).
The Dubbing Facilities will be located in the Mediarts block at Wintec, Collingwood Street (see you Shoot Out Guide for location details)
IF YOU MISS YOUR BOOKING TIME, YOUR BOOKING WILL BE CANCELLED. YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER LATER BOOKING IF ANY ARE STILL AVAILABLE. WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE THIS WILL BE POSSIBLE.
Entrants will have the option of adding music and/or voiceovers to their video.
This means that you CAN:
dub music over a scene in stereo completely erasing the original location sound, and
dub music onto a scene in mono leaving one channel of original location sound.
This means that you CANNOT:
have stereo music and original location sound simultaneously,
have music, a voiceover and original sound at the same time,
have one piece of music crossfade into another,
have the original sound crossfade into music (or vice versa),
"clean up" the location sound; if your original sound is noisy or unclear it cannot be fixed.
Due to time restrictions and the length of the film, you should NOT plan on having a dozen different pieces of music.
The dubbing facility will NOT cut (i.e. edit) anything out of your film
Prices:
Dubbing $8.00 per dub
CD Library $3.00 per track
CD Burning $2.00 per CD
Given the time restrictions, the organisers recommend a maximum of three tracks.
Also remember if you miss your dubbing time you will be cancelled, and you will need to book a new time if there is one available (which is not likely).
DUBBING FACILITY WILL CLOSE PROMPTLY AT 8.30pm on the SATURDAY. Anyone arriving after this time, or anyone without a booking will not be dubbed.
