In the meantime check out last years details:-

The Shoot Out dares filmmakers to come to Hamilton to make a short film on video in 24 hours from Friday night to Saturday night over one weekend. In Hamilton the event is being held 23-26 September 2005. Filmmakers have from 9pm Friday night until 9pm Saturday night to complete and hand in their film. Given the time restrictions, filming is completed on video format and the final product dubbed onto the VHS tape supplied.

Participants are encouraged to enter prior to the night of registration. On registration night, entrants can :
• book a time for dubbing their final footage
• book a time to listen to music in the dedicated Music library

Guidelines for Entry

• Entry forms to The Shoot Out Hamilton can be submitted up until 8pm Friday 23 September 2005.
• Entry forms will NOT be accepted if the entry form is incomplete
• Entry forms must include the following:
$38.00 incl GST non-refundable entry fee for first person in team
$15.00 incl GST non-refundable entry fee for each additional team member
• Cheques and money orders are payable to The Shoot Out. Please do not send cash.
• All team members MUST be registered.
• If you would like your completed film returned to you, an extra $10 (GST inclusive) must be paid for return of the tape at end of event.

The Competition

• It is recommended that producers make sure that all members of their team are registered (please note that you can have participants in your team who are not registered but they are ineligible for any category prizes and NOT covered by the event’s public liability insurance).
• Entrants must supply their own camera
• Dubbing facilities are available and can be booked Friday 23 September from 6.30pm
• All works must be handed in on the Mini DV tape supplied

• No editing, other than in camera editing, is allowed - do you dare???

In Camera Editing Definition

• Films must be shot in sequence, i.e. produced in a linear manner (NO EDITING). This means that teams may rewind tape, preview and tape over what was last shot
• Teams may not edit, i.e. without using an editing suite, any method that views it through monitor or by connecting several cameras or recorders together, or use of a computer or any other technology other than the one camera used to shoot the video/film.
• The purpose of the competition is to foster and encourage creativity, i.e. the idea of the film and its execution, rather than the technology used to make it slick.
• Dubbing of voice over or music is allowed. The soundtrack that is dubbed onto your film can be edited material. But under no circumstances can the sound be edited onto your vision. It must be DUBBED.
• The producer of the entered film must hold copyright for music, voice over, images and performances so that the film can be shown internationally for an indefinite period from 23 September 2005
• These copyrights are the Producer's responsibility and may need to be obtained prior to the event. The Shoot Out takes no responsibility for any breaches of copyright.
• A library of copyright released local original music will be available. This library can be assessed from Thursday 22 September 2005
• All entrants must register in person from 5.00pm - 8.30pm on Friday 23 September 2005 at Civic Plaza (the Hamilton City Council Buildings), Hamilton.
• Shoot Out show bags containing a Mini DV tape, a map, deadlines, dubbing details, music and actor’s releases and a list of music will be handed out at registration from 5.00pm Friday 23 September 2005.
• Teams will receive the brief for their film just prior to 9pm Friday 23 September 2005
• Films must be made within a 24 hour period from 9pm Friday 23 September to 9pm Saturday 24 September 2005.
• Films will not be accepted after 9pm SHARP Saturday 24 September 2005.
• Each film will be made specifically for The Shoot Out Hamilton.
• Each film MUST be no longer than seven (7) minutes including titles and credits. Films will be disqualified if they are longer than seven (7) minutes.
• Each film MUST contain a selection of five items as outlined in the brief provided at the registration on Friday evening at 8.40pm
• The items are to appear in the film as proof that the film was shot in 24hrs. They do not have to be prominently featured or shown in full. The judges will look for the items "Where's Wally" style.
• The films shown to the industry judges and the public during the weekend are selected and programmed by the preliminary judging panel whose selections are based on each film's overall quality in technique and creativity.
• It should be noted that the Producer of the film is the owner of that film. Any sales negotiations with third parties will be the responsibility of the film's producer.
